This photo was taken two years after the bridge cap replacement, on location at the ********** Conservatorium of Music. BRIDGE CAP REPLACEMENT - IMAGE SIX
With reference to the image, please note the following;
- Bridges are completely envelope sealed with polyurethane prior to the application of the slip coating.
- Note the chamfer at the end of the bridge. The annual growth rings can be seen running vertically down from the top of the bridge.
This can be seen when a bridge cap is made from accurately quarter cut stock.- This piano has been kept in unsatisfactory conditions, ie. under conditions of excessive humidity.
Note the rock maple dowel plug is now much lower than the surrounding bridge cap height. This is symptomatic of a piano stored in conditions of excessive humidity. The cap material has swollen with moisture while the hard dowel, with its long grain running straight up out of the bridge cap, remains almost at its original height.- Rust spots have begun to form on the top of the new bridge pins
